🏹 David and Goliath: The Giant-Slayer

🏹 David and Goliath: The Giant-Slayer

Long ago, the Israelites were at war with the Philistines. The two armies camped on opposite hills with a valley in between. Every day, a giant named Goliath came out from the Philistine camp. He was over 9 feet tall, wore heavy armor, and carried a massive spear.

Goliath shouted,

“Send me one man to fight me! If he beats me, we’ll become your servants. But if I win, you serve us!”

The Israelites were terrified. No one dared to fight him… for 40 days.

Enter: David

David was just a young shepherd. He wasn’t a soldier. He spent his days watching sheep, playing his harp, and writing songs to God. One day, his father sent him to deliver food to his older brothers on the battlefield.

When David heard Goliath mocking God and threatening Israel, he couldn’t believe no one was standing up to him.
He said,

“I’ll fight him. God protected me from lions and bears. He’ll protect me from this giant too.”

The Battle

King Saul tried to give David his armor, but it was too big. So David took it off. Instead, he picked up five smooth stones and took his sling.

David walked into the valley to face Goliath.

Goliath laughed,

“You come at me with sticks? Am I a dog?”

But David stood tall and said,

“You come with a sword. I come in the name of the Lord. Today, He will give you into my hands.”

Then David swung his sling, aimed, and let the stone fly…

SMACK!
The stone hit Goliath in the forehead.

The giant crashed to the ground—defeated.

The Victory

The Philistines ran in fear. Israel shouted in victory. And from that day on, David was known not as just a shepherd—but as God’s giant-slayer.

Moral of the story:

You don’t have to be big to be brave.
When God’s with you, no giant can stand against you.
